Founding Partner, President & Girls Head Coach
Rob is currently in his 5th season as the leader of our girls program. Rob is a teacher at Regina Mundi and active in the regional basketball community. Rob has been fortunate to have also coached with the London Ramblers Basketball Club for 10 years and, most recently, leading the JUEL program where his team captured the inaugural JUEL Prep Championship in 2014 and was recognized as the 2017 London Ramblers and JUEL League Coach of the Year. Rob is also a part of the Ontario Basketball Association family having been an assistant coach with Team Ontario, a regional CP Head Coach, as well as the Huron Region Targeted Athlete Strategy coach since 2014. Rob is also the director of the largest girl’s basketball tournament in Ontario (the 32 team Western University Purple and White Tournament) and hosted AAA OFSAA in 2013. Under his direction and with the full support of his administration, Southwest Academy will provide a first class, elite and truly holistic experience for its student-athletes. Southwest Academy and Regina Mundi Catholic Secondary School in association with the London District Catholic School board are committed to a long term sustainable, competitive and thriving relationship.
Founding Partner & Boys Head Coach
Coach Kevin Barnes is currently in his 5th season as the HC for our boys program. He is also a member of the U17 Ontario provincial team as an assistant coach. Before founding SW he spent 5 years 2010-2015 working with the Western Mustangs men’s basketball program as a U-Sports assistant coach. In that time coach Barnes was also the head coach of various London Ramblers high school boys club teams and has run several Basketball Ontario TIDP evaluations and teams. Coach Barnes also possesses a Bachelor of Arts, Physical Education degree from the University of Alberta, Augustana Faculty and also has earned a diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services from Conestoga College. Coach Barnes has spent over a decade working as a basketball director and head councilor with Five Star Basketball, Camp Wayne for Boys, and various independently run basketball camps. Coach Barnes prepares and develops SW student-athletes in a professional manner and continues to maximize the potential of our student-athletes, program, and family.
Director of Operations
Teri-Lyn also goes by TL. TL helps with administrative work and also helps run some of the daily operations of Southwest. TL has worked 15+ years in the Children's Mental Health field mainly at Children’s Hospital in London, Ontario. TL is married to Coach Rob and they have two children, Claire and Logan. TL is excited and proud to be a part of Southwest and provide the best experience and opportunities for the athletes that come into the program.
Richard is currently in his second season as AC. Richard is responsible for individual player plans, statistics/analytics, and is one of our SW skill trainers. Richard is also currently a member of the London Basketball officials board and is an active college level official.
Brie is currently in her 2nd season as the lead AC on the girls team. Brie is focused on supporting our girls OSBA team and our SW training programs. A London native, Brie joined SW after a successful playing career as a student athlete in the NCAA and USports.
Jacob is currently in his first year as AC. Jacob has built a reputation as a top end skill trainer. He plays a key role in our SW training and camp programs and is responsible for assisting in our boys teams day to day athletic operations.
Strength and Mental Toughness Coach
Billy has spent more than 15 years coaching at the college and high school level. Billy has worked with teams in the OCAA and in USports. Billy also played basketball at the high school level in Australia before moving back to Canada where he was a multi-sport athlete. Billy earned a Division I NCAA scholarship for football and earned his degree as a student athlete. Billy’s professional focus includes his work as an instructor in the areas of mental preparation as well as resilience mindset and high-level performance among first responders and athletes.
Waell has been blessed to have taught kids of various age groups through the Milton Stags/S-Elite program the last 6 years. In addition, he recently spent the last 4 years working for the University of Western Ontario men’s basketball team. Waell is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Western Ontario, pursuing an honours double major degree in political science and criminology.
Certified Athletic Therapist
Emma grew up here in London. Studied first degree at Western University then went on to Sheridan College to obtain her Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences in Athletic Therapy. During Emma's time at Sheridan she was fortunate to work with a variety of sports/athletes starting in the OSBA with Kings Christian, then Durham College soccer and volleyball, and CFL Ottawa REDBLACKS training camp in 2018. Emma then moved out west to work with the BC Lions of the CFL for their 2019/2020 season. We are blessed to have Emma back home here in London and couldn’t be happier to have her start her next chapter here with Southwest Academy. Emma also has a private practice operating out of Fitclub Bootcamps Gym and she is going to be an integral part of the Southwest Family!
Sports have always been a part of Emily’s life. Emily has played soccer since she was 4 years old. In high school Emily was given the award for female athlete for grades 9 and 10 as well as female graduating athlete in her final high school year. She played basketball, volleyball and soccer throughout her high school years at Clarke Road Secondary School. After high school Emily went on to receive a Bachelors degree from Wilfred Laurier University, and then a Fitness and Health Promotion diploma. Emily has been with Southwest as trainer since 2017, helping the players with any injuries they may receive. Making sure they get the proper treatment and heal properly. Emily is now married to very supportive husband Jon.
