COACH Rob Angione
Founding Partner & Girls Head Coach
Rob is entering his third season leading the girls program. Rob is a teacher at Regina Mundi and active in the regional basketball community. Rob has been fortunate to have also coached with the London Ramblers Basketball Club for 10 years and, most recently, leading the JUEL program where his team captured the inaugural JUEL Prep Championship in 2014 and was recognized as the 2017 London Ramblers and JUEL League Coach of the Year. Rob is also a part of the Ontario Basketball Association family having been an assistant coach with Team Ontario, a regional CP Head Coach, as well as the Huron Region Targeted student-athlete Strategy coach since 2014. Rob is also the director of the largest girl’s basketball tournament in Ontario (the 32 team Western University Purple and White Tournament) and hosted AAA OFSAA in 2013. Under his direction and with the full support of his administration, Southwest Academy will provide a first class, elite and truly holistic experience for its student-athletes. Southwest Academy and Regina Mundi Catholic Secondary School in association with the London District Catholic School board are committed to a long term sustainable, competitive and thriving relationship.
COACH KEVIN BARNES
Founding Partner and Boys Head Coach
Coach Kevin Barnes is entering his third season as the HC for our boys program. He is also a member of the U17 Ontario provincial team as an assistant coach. Before founding SW he spent 5 years 2010-2015 working with the Western Mustangs men’s basketball program as a U-Sports assistant coach. In that time coach Barnes was also the head coach of various London Ramblers high school boys club teams and has run several Basketball Ontario TIDP evaluations and teams. Coach Barnes also possesses a Bachelor of Arts, Physical Education degree from the University of Alberta, Augustana Faculty and also has earned a diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services from Conestoga College. Coach Barnes has spent over a decade working as a basketball director and head councilor with Five Star Basketball, Camp Wayne for Boys, and various independently run basketball camps. Coach Barnes has a clear professional development plan including NCCP Train to Win certification and the National Coaching Institute. Coach Barnes will prepare and develop SW student-athletes in a professional manner and will maximize the potential of our players student-athletes, program, and family.
Jennifer (J) Cushing

SW South Region, Skills Trainer
J joined the Southwest family in the Spring of 2016. She brings over 35 years of basketball experience to the program as the Southwest Girls Lead Assistant Coach. J played basketball at the club and high school levels in St. Catharines, Ontario, represented Team Ontario, various Niagara regional programs, and enjoyed four successful years as an integral part of the York University Varsity Women’s Basketball Team where she was team captain and Ontario All Star for two years.
J is NCCP Learn to Train and Train to Train certified and coached in the London Rambler organization from 2014-2018. J is also a regional CP (OBA Centre for Performance) coach for the Huron Region.
COACH Tim Doherty
Tim has over 30 years of basketball coaching experience. He has coached at the club (OBA), high school, and university levels. While coaching at the high school level his teams made multiple appearances at OFSAA championships. Tim has obtained his level three coaching certification through the NCCP. Tim spent the last five years as an assistant coach at the University of Guelph and the University of Western Ontario. He has also worked with Ontario Basketball coaching MDP and JDP as part of the Elite Development Program. Tim graduated from Wilfrid Laurier and the University of Western Ontario and spent 33 years as a teacher and principal in Stratford and Woodstock. He will be focusing on academic support for Southwest student-athletes.
A London native who played football at Mother Teresa Secondary School and was recruited in 2013 as a quarterback for Western University. He is an Athletic Trainer and researcher with Western’s Men’s Varsity Hockey team. Dillon worked with clinicians at Fowler Kennedy for the 4 years. He has a Bachelor degree in Kinesiology (Honours BA with Distinction), a Ph.D and is a Masters in Physical Therapy student researching concussive and sub-concussive impacts and their effects on cognition. Dillion is a published researcher with multiple conference presentations.
SW West Region, Skills Trainer
Greg currently plays professional basketball for the Kitchener Titans in the Canadian National Basketball League. During his professional career he spent time training with the Raptors 905. Greg is a native of London Ontario and played high school basketball for Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School in west London. He continued his basketball career at Western University finishing his 5 year post-secondary career as the Mustangs all-time leading scorer. Greg has a passion for basketball and teaching the game to younger student-athletes who are looking to improve their skills and build their self-esteem through the sport he has dedicated his life to.
